About the book

"How to Live to 110" is firmly based on science and is a no-nonsense guide to your best chance for a healthy, long life. It explains:

  • Key processes in your body and how modern living messes these up

  • Straightforward ways to avoid heart disease, cancer and the other big killers

  • How to delay dementia, keep free from infections and avoid accidents

  • What foods to eat – and to avoid – so your body stays healthy and does not put on fat

  • Ways to lose fat and keep it off (as simply dieting leaves most people fatter in the long term)

  • What makes the biggest difference, and what common advice doesn’t work.

Plenty of books and internet sites tell you that doing this or that is good for your health. Often they're right, but sometimes they can be wildly wrong, repeating advice that is not backed up by scientific studies.

What we've done is brought together the best science we could find on improving your chances to live longer and have a healthy old age. And rather than simply tell you what to do, we explain in a straightforward way what is going on in your body - with plenty of illustrations and a few cartoons.

We want you to be able to make your own decisions about what is best for you and your family.

To do that, you need to know what advice makes a big difference and what is less important. So all our main suggestions have a simple scoring system that shows how big an impact they can make to your health.

We cover all the main diseases that cut short lives, and all the aspects of lifestyle that can make a difference.

The orange bar down the right hand side of this web page lists all the main chapters. Click on the links to get a flavour of each chapter and the breadth of what the book contains. This is only a small fraction of what is in the book itself!

There's a lot in this book, but we've made it quick to read.

To help readers who simply want the main information quickly, we have highlighted everything that is important. You just need to read the section headings and highlighted paragraphs: together these tell the whole story of each chapter. You could get a sense of the whole book in an hour or two.

If you have more time, the rest of the text will add a lot more depth to your understanding. You will end up with a better idea of why the advice works, and what is going on in your body.

Have a look at some of the sample chapters to see how this all works. The links are below.
